Will to Power

Will to Power is a band created by Bob Rosenburg that played a major role in the freestyle explosion of the latter part of the 1980s. Will to Power had multiple major hits during the peak of freestyle music. The groups music was mainly electro dance tracks that clubbers loved dancing to.

The group would eventually show that they could also create a slower love song hit; which they did. At the peak of their popularity, the groups lead singers were Suzi Carr as the lead female vocalist and Bob Rosenbug as the lead male vocalist.

Top songs from Will to Power

Will to Power’s biggest hits all came from their very first album which was titled “Will to Power.” The biggest hit for Will to Power was the 1988 release of “Baby I love your way / Freebird Medley.” The slow love song was a hybrid remake of two older songs from the 1970s. Suzi Carr is the lead female vocalist in the song along with Bob Rosenburg as the male lead vocalist.

“Baby I love your way” spent a week at the number one spot on the Billboard Top 100 and went U.S. Gold. Initially, Epic Records did not want to release this song. Fortunately, Bob Rosenburg had passed out copies of this song to a couple popular Florida radio stations; particularly Power 96. It caught on and the rest is history.

Other gigantic hits from the “Will to Power” album were “Dreamin” and “Say it’s Gonna Rain.” Both of these songs are up tempo freestyle dance songs that are two of the most popular freestyle songs of all time.

In 1987, the song “Dreamin” is what started it all for Will to Power. It hit number 50 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100 and went to number 15 on the U.S. Dance Charts. The very next year, “Say It’s Gonna Rain” was another big hit as it charted at number 49 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100 and hit the #1 spot on the U.S. Dance Charts.

Another song that enjoyed success from the “Will to Power” album was “Fading Away.” It charted at number 65 on the U.S. Billboard, but once again like “Say It’s Gonna Rain,” “Fading Away” hit the #1 spot on the dance charts.

He put “Dreamin” on his own label called Thrust Records. It was played at a few clubs, gained a following and some people began requesting it. Rosenburg wanted to keep his name quiet due to him still being in the radio business and didn’t want any radio stations to not play “Dreamin” for the simple fact that it was his group.

Florida’s Power 96 started playing it constantly and may have thought that the artists of this song must have been a local neighborhood band.
