Sweet Sensation is the name of the female trio group which consisted of Betty Lebron (AKA Betty Dee,) Margie Fernandez and Mari Fernandez. The group was formed in New York and had many hit songs that have gone on to become freestyle music classics. The origins of the group began when Mari Fernandez and her sister had dreams of starting a three girl singing group. The sisters had the liberty of living next door to David Sanchez, who was a music manager and had some pull in the music industry.

The sisters’ original idea was for them and a friend of Mari to form the three girl group. With that not working out, a third member was needed, and Margie approached a friend of hers from school that could sing very well. This friend, Betty Dee, was invited my Margie to meet up with neighbor David Sanchez. The meeting happened, David Sanchez was very impressed with Betty Dee and the rest is history.

The most successful song from Sweet Sensation is “If wishes came true” and is from their 1990 album titled “Love Child.” Up to this point in their career, Sweet Sensation were definitely top freestyle artists, but they took a chance with this album and changed their style a bit, and the result was the creation of the most successful song of their careers. “If wishes came true” hit #1 on the U.S. billboards on September 1, 1990.

Those more into the faster paced freestyle dance music craze will certainly know Sweet Sensation’s earlier songs starting with the groups first hit from 1986 “Hooked on you.” This was from the album “Take it while it’s hot” which produced many hits that topped the charts. “Hooked on you” landed at #64 on the U.S. chart in 1986, but you have to remember that freestyle music was pretty much a new thing at this point and really had not gotten much respect at this point. The same album also had a “Hooked on you” Remix version that was released in 1989 and went to #23 on the U.S. chart. By this time, freestyle music was all mainstream and had earned the respect it deserved.

In 1987, the song “Victim of love” was released and hit #44 on the U.S. dance chart. The following year “Take it while it’s hot” became the groups biggest hit thus far as it hit #57 on the U.S. chart and #14 on the U.S. dance chart. That same very year, “Never let you go” hit #58 on the U.S chart and became the #1 song on the U.S. dance chart. There was no doubt that Sweet Sensation kept everybody at the clubs dancing. The highest U.S. charting song form the album came out in 1989 and reached #14 which was “Sincerely Yours.” The song also hit #30 on the U.S. dance chart.

A new album was released in 1990 titled “Love child.” This album featured the #1 hit “If wishes came true” which was a slow love song and much different from the uptempo Sweet Sensation songs that fans were used of. It worked though and became their most successful song of all time. The tittle track ”Love child,” which was a remake of the Supreme’s 1968 hit was also a success as it hit #13 on the U.S. chart and #15 on the U.S. dance chart. “Each and every time” also charted at #59 on the U.S. chart.
