Let’s not forget the all girl freestyle group called S.A.L.

  • by

Around 2004, an all girl group put themselves together and called themselves S.A.L. These three girls were no ordinary girls though. All three of them had already established themselves as freestyle music legends. There was no album recorded, nor did they need to. They would get together and do live performances, and their fans loved it. It was an honor and a privileged for anyone that witnessed a S.A.L. performance.

Who were the girls in S.A.L.

S.A.L. was made up of Lil Suzy, Angel Mercado (Lead singer of the Cover Girls) and Lisette Melendez. From their first names, they came up with S.A.L. Interestingly, the name of the owner of Fever Records is Sal Abbatiello. All three girl were signed to Fever Records when they put out their hits during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

What songs did S.A.L. perform?

When they went on stage, the girls would perform their hit songs and the other two girls provided backup vocals. This had to be really fun for them. For example, when Angel would perform “Show me,” Suzy and Lisette would provide backup vocals. The same happened when Lil Suzy would perform “Take me in your arms.” You’d have Angel and Lisette doing background vocals. Of course, the same happened when Lisette Melendez performed “Together forever.”

Want to see S.A.L?

These days, all three of these girls are still performing, but I’m pretty sure it’s been a long while since they did the S.A.L. thing. They are all still very active in freestyle concerts. Not only can you see Lil Suzy, Lisette Melendez and Angel Mercado of the Original Cover Girls still performing, but you can also see other freestyle legends grouped together with them at freestyle concerts. Artists such as Stevie B., Cynthia, Expose, etc. All concerts are different and will have different guests, but who knows, maybe you will see all S.A.L. members there together.
